. Coalition Formed to Protect Morning After Pill (11/17/05)

JEFFERSON CITY - The Coalition Against the War on Women was created in response to Gov. Blunt saying he would support a law that would allow pharmacists to refuse to fill perscriptions for the morning after pill.

The morning after pill has been discussed at the national level because the FDA has yet to decide whether it can be sold over the counter.

    . State Democrats Will Sponsor Legislation to Improve Disaster Response Time in the State (11/17/05)

    JEFFERSON CITY - Democrat Representatives Ed Wildberger and Jeff Roorda will sponsor the legislation aimed at improving communication.

    . House Budget Chairman Warns of Budget Shortfall (11/16/05)

    JEFFERSON CITY - House Budget Chairman Brad Lager says the State will face a major shortfall in the 2007 fiscal budget.

    Lager says Missouri is spending nearly double the amount of money available on schools, bond payments, fuel and Medicaid.

    . Federal Court Rules Part of Abortion Law Unconstitutional (11/16/05)

    JEFFERSON CITY - A federal judge said the language requiring discussion between a doctor and an abortion patients is too vague.

    The case will now head to the Supreme Court.

    . Vietnam Wall Replica to Visit Capitol (11/16/05)

    JEFFERSON CITY - A travelling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial will visit the Capitol's south lawn next week.

    The travelling wall is approximately half the size of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and includes all the names carved into the original.

    . Changes to Medicare Transportation Means Less Wait Time (11/15/05)

    JEFFERSON CITY - Logisticare, the state's new transportation provider, has added ambulances, personnel and phones lines in an attempt to cut down on patient wait time.

    Last week a southwest Missouri man died in his home while waiting for a ride from Logisticare.

    . State Works To Reimburse Groups That Helped With Hurricane Relief (11/15/05)

    JEFFERSON CITY - Private organizations like the Red Cross have until December 8th to submit their expenses to the State Emergency Managment Agency (SEMA).

    SEMA expects the federal reimbursment money to come early next year.

    . Blunt Establishes New Emergency Management Standards (11/15/05)

    JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Matt Blunt signed an executive order aimed at coordinating communication procedures during a state disaster.

    The state has until Oct. 1, 2006 to complete employee training.

    . Groups aim to raise homelessness awareness (11/14/05)

    JEFFERSON CITY - The Governor's Committee to End Homelessness hosted "Walking with People...Who Have No Homes" on the first day of National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week in an effort to educate people about homelessness in Missouri.

    More than 5,000 shoes lined the state Capitol steps -- one pair for every 10 Missourians who experience homelessness.

    . Missourians Seeking Help To Pay Utilities has Doubled (11/14/05)

    JEFFERSON CITY - The number of Missourians seeking federal help to pay their energy bills has more than doubled compared to this same time last year.

    The Missouri Community Action Agency administers the Low Income Housing Energy Assistance Program with offices in every county.

    . The Governor's Committee to End Homelessness says Medicaid cuts could increase the number of homeless people statewide. (11/14/05)

    JEFFERSON CITY - Committee Chairperson Liz Hagar-Mace says Medicaid cuts could cause the poor to become homeless. The Governor's Spokesperson Spence Jackson says he doesn't think the cuts will change the number of homeless people.

    . Attorney General Reaches Agreement to Help Combat Wire Fraud (11/14/05)

    JEFFERSON CITY - The Attorney General joined 46 other states to sign an agreement with Western Union to help stop wire fraud.

    An estimated $113 million is lost nationaly each year to wire scams.
