The Missouri Senate has put proposals cutting Missouri's Medicaid program on the fast track to passage. Tim Carnahan has more from the state Capitol.

The cuts to Medicaid are in a plan submitted to the Senate on the last day new bills could be introduced.

On Monday, the Senate committee on Pensions will take testimony on the bills, which could hit the Senate floor next week.

Boone County Democratic Senator Chuck Graham says the bills' speedy trip to passage is an attempt to decrease public influence on Republican Senators who might be convinced to vote against the cuts.

OutCue: "...draconian bill."
Contents: "If you decrease the amount of time for pressure to be applied it makes it easier for the Governor to get them to vote yes for this draconian bill."

Tens of thousands of Missourians could be affected by the cuts.

Senate Republicans say the state budget can not be balanced until the bills are passed.

They say the Medicaid system is a drain on the state budget.

Critics say Blunt's call for cuts broke a campaign promise to root out fraud from the system before slashing the rolls.

From the state Capitol, I'm Tim Carnahan.
