The Senate Judiciary Committe passed a bill outlawing human cloning.

Missouri Senators passed a bill out of committee that could affect medical research in the state of Missouri.

Jade Mingus has more from the state Capitol.

The Senate committee voted seven to two to pass Republican Senator Matt Bartle's bill to outlaw human cloning.

Bartle's bill also outlaws SCNT, or somatic cell nuclear transfer, a procedure used to create embryonic stem cells.

Republican Senator Chris Koster, who voted for the bill, said he was worried about the time alloted for hearings.

"I have profound concerns over the direction we are taking over a very limited amount of timet that we have spent before we have attempted to answer the questions."

Koster also said he was interested in what scientists from both sides of the debate had to say.

Democratic Senator Chuck Graham and Democratic Senator Charles Wheeler voted against the bill.

One Missouri legislator's bill to outlaw human cloning is now one step closer to becoming law. Jade Mingus has more from the state Capitol.

A Senate committee voted seven to two in favor of Republican Senator Matt Bartle's bill to ban human cloning. Republican Senator John Loudon said he voted in favor of the bill because of the consequences of human cloning.

"The legitimate scientists are taking as they perfect it in this process. They are creating the very technology that is going to aid the human cloning."

Senator Loudon says it is naive to think that scientists doing this procedure are not creating the roadmap for human cloning.

Senator Chuck Graham and Senator Charles Wheeler had the only opposition votes.

Republican Senator John Loudon said he voted for the bill because embryonic stem cell research would lead to human cloning.
