House speaker Catherine Hanaway announced the formation of a special committee to study the issue.

Earlier this year, the state legislature passed a law allowing voters to go to the polls as early as two weeks before election day.

But a judge says the state doesn't have to implement it this year, despite the wishes of St. Louis mayor Francis Slay.

Hanaway says she supports early voting, but she's concerned about the impact on local election officials.

Hanaway says early voting is a bi-partisan issue, so she appointed Jefferson City Republican Bill Deeken and St. Louis Democrat Tom Villa to co-chair the committee.
