Legislature leaves for break without finishing budget

The Missouri Legislature has reached it's halfway mark and everyone has gone home for spring break. But a budget is yet to be seen. Monica Walter reports from the state Capitol.

The state budget is still in the House of Representatives and it has to be finished by May fifteenth.

Speaker of the House Catherine Hanaway says the House is waiting to see how much revenue they will have to work with before the budget is sent to the Senate. This could be as late as April fifteenth.

Senate President Pro Tem Peter Kinder says the time constraint will not be a problem for the Senate.

For the first time in recent history Missouri lawmakers have left the budget unresolved after the first half of the legislative session.

The budget has been stuck in the House since January. Republican Speaker of the House Catherine Hanaway says they are waiting to see how much money the state will see in revenue.
