Lawmaker Proposes Having Anti-Abortion License Plates

January 26, 1999

State Capital Bureau
A lawmaker presented his bill to the Senate today that would give Missouri residents the option of having a new license plate with an anti-abortion theme. Princess Reyes has this report from Jefferson City:

Sen. Harry Wiggins presented a bill to the Senate today that advocates his view on abortion. If his bill passes, Missouri drivers could order specialty license plates that say "Respect Life" on them. However, lobbyists for women's rights oppose his bill. If it passes, they say they want to establish a commission to support women's reproductive rights.
