The Missouri House of Representatives postpones voting on a measure giving the go-ahead to set up carpool lanes.

There's no vote but lots of debate over a measure allowing the Missouri Department of Transportation to consider carpool lanes as an option to traffic problems in metropolitan areas.
The bill's sponsor, Joan Bray from St Louis County, said the Missouri Department of Transportation told her they wanted legislative support to even consider setting up carpool lanes.
Bray said lanes requiring a minimum number of passengers solve more than just traffic congestion problems.

The legislature did not vote on a measure that would let some lanes in metropolitan areas be changed to lanes requiring a minimum number of passengers.

Representative Jon Bennett from St Charles said he opposes the measure.
The bill sponsor said carpool lanes eleviate traffic congestion and improve air quality because carpooling means fewer cars on roads.
