Post-secondary officials may not be able to float into retirement on a "golden parachute."

The controversy over the retirement packages of three Missouri post secondary officials prompted a Senate amendment to prevent schools from giving out "golden parachutes."

Ex-Tiger basketball coach Norm Stewart got one of the packages that raised eyebrows around the state. Stewart's and two other retirement deals prompted Senator Wayne Goode to propose a law preventing further "sweetheart deals" for Missouri post secondary officials.

He tacked the proposal onto a House bill. The Senate passed the bill, sending it back to the House for final approval.

The law wouldn't be retroactive, so won't affect Stewart's or the other two deals.
