The House Budget committee voted in favor of bills that would provide funding for the construction of two new maximum security prisons.

Education lobbyists opposed the measures, proposing funding for only one prison, freeing up 70 million dollars for higher education.

A compromised version was supported that would give money both to prison funding and to the University of Missouri.

The bills will next go to the house floor for a vote.
