Measure Would Limit Credit Access for Boat Gamblers.

February 3, 1997

State Capital Bureau

A bill to ban credit card machines from gambling boats was presented at the capitol this afternoon. Allison Girvin explains from Jefferson City.

Kansas City Senator Ronnie DePasco wants credit card machines banned from gambling boats.

The machines allow gamblers to take cash out on their credit cards for high fees up to 9 dollars and fifty cents.

DePasco claims this is illegal because gambling boats can't give loans to customers.

OutCue: said, loan sharking
Contents: With that kind of fee, plus the interest, it's like I said, loan sharking.

Bankers say the credit card machines should stay on board, but the user fees should be more prominently displayed. Reporting from the capitol, I am Allison Girvin.
