MU Budget Takes Another Legislative Step

JEFFERSON CITY - The governor's budget recommendation for University of Missouri survived the House Budget Committee without change.

In less than ten minutes, the committee approved the governor's recommendation for a 7.2 percent increase in MU's general education operating budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1.

In addition, the committee approved the governor's recommendation of $4 million are for endowed faculty chairs and $4.6 million for purchase of information technology in one-time budget recommendations.

The $354.8 million appropriation would be one of MU's largest budget increases in recent years.

The committee also approved transferring from the Economic Development Department to MU a $250,000 appropriation for the Capsule Pipeline Research Center, based in the Columbia campus.

Budget Committee staff said the full House could begin debate on the budget as early as today.
